So last week I went to an antique store downtown called Belongings!
Here are the things I loved!
1.Wooden signs.
They have these all over the store and I totally fell in love with them right as I walked. I just picture these complimenting a really minimalistic room cause I think they add a touch of rustic interest to a room that would otherwise be full of clean lines.
2. Bowl of Miscellaneous Jewellery.
For some reason I didn't spend a long time actually looking at the jewellery in the bowl I just took a few frames and moved on, but looking back I really should've taken a closer look.. especially because little pearl studs have been on my "stuff-you-consistently-forget-to-purchase" list for ages. Hmm. I'll probably go back and have a quick look through them. Pearls out the wazoo! What's nice is that they are relatively cheap [$8+] and truly vintage.
3. Bowl Of Miscellaneous Buttons.
I don't think I can justify my love for all things button. But seriously you guys. I adore buttons of all kinds. I especially love jewellery that incorporates buttons. Que photo of my favourite necklace in all the land.
Reasons that buttons rock:
1. Put some in a bowl. Now run your hands through them.
2. They hold our clothes together, yo!
3. They come in all shapes and sizes and everyone needs them.
4. Bowl Of Miscellaneous...Beads..?
Keeping with the trend of random things placed in a bowl for no good reason, I saw these little bottles of beads and was transported into a mental Alice-in-Wonderland type of situation. Except that these come with no instructions and would probably wreak some sort of intestinal havoc as opposed to offering you awesome growing abilities. When I said bowl before? Yeah that’s not abowl. It’s a tray. Don’t get it twisted.
5. Dresser #1
To be perfectly honest, there was nothing spectacular about this dresser at all, I just really liked the way the store had arranged those hairbrushes. There was a mirror I should’ve taken pictures of but neglected to. The oval handheld kind with the silver inlay, y’nno?
6. Desk.
This desk was amazing up until I saw that ugly detailing on the inner right hand side. I thought it was really nice and surprisingly simplistic until I saw that. If you’re going to go antique, I’m all about the subtlety of old things. If it’s all cray cray and garish looking, I’m not exactly feeling the need to add more chaos into an already chaotic [stylistically speaking] bedroom..
7. Chandelier #1
I fell in love with this jaw-dropper the minute I saw it. In person, it’s this lovely rich brassy-gold pyrite-y colour. I loved the design though I think the lightbulb holder with the corny-as-crap dripping candle wax is a- corn-central and b- logistically speaking, it makes absolutely no damn sense. ALSO. You can’t really tell in the photo but the wires are mangled and look like they are ready for some serious shelf-retirement, so I guess if I were to buy it, I’d have to find some way of masking the gnarly wires.
8. Butter Churn
I just realized. Does that say $75?!!? HESUS CHRISTO. I mean Iunderstand, except that I don’t. Why? I wonder how old it is. It’s practical because in reality the only other butter churns I’ve ever seen are like industrial sized and at museums, but this is a perfect alternative for homemade butter that the whole family can put their elbow grease into!
And then I followed the sign downstairs...
8. Chandelier #2
This was the second thing that I instantly loved. There’s something about the idea of light suspended perfectly over the centre of a room that is just so classy. The fact that it’s crystal helps. I would have bought this but a- I really don’t need it. b- I’d have to actually keep my room CLEAN to make it a worthwhile purchase and c-...just no.
9. That One Thing I Almost Bought.
This gorgeous white cabinet/desk/vanity thing. I was so tempted, but the vision of me walking home with it strapped to my back was enough to deter me. I also didn’t check out the price. I was there to take pictures not actually participate in an active [window] shopping experience!
10. ...Uh, Yeah.
While I’m not entirely sure what purpose these intricately shaped, white things serve, my intuition tells me that they are book ends. These were only $12 each which I thought was pretty decent. I can imagine these in a room with a ton of wainscotting and coffered ceilings.
11. ’Nother Wooden Sign + Teatime
Carpe That Diem; one of my favourite mantras. I was tempted to buy this sign the first time I saw it in the window display a few months back, but the $45 price tag made me reconsider and then scoff at the idea of paying for something I could probably replicate in a D.I.Y project if I really wanted to. The Teatime set was really dainty and sweet, the china was that nice bright white and the illustrations are really well done. I love the mini milk jug.
12. Basket Of Bottles.
I took a few frames of this simply because I loved the way they were arranged in there. Most are without stoppers or caps and I think that adds to the care fee feel of them. Some of the glass was green one or two of them were blueish and the rest were clear. The best part is, I have totally seen a tumblr photo that reminded me of them. Especially that slim buckely-shaped one up front for $4. Here’s the pic.
Goodbye,
Store of awesomely-over-priced-ancients!
